North Sheep

Come along to discover how this living tradition, rooted in the Cumbrian fells, is being celebrated, recorded, and passed on to new generations. The Lakeland Shepherds' Guide Project works closely with hill farmers and commoners to explore the unique culture of commoning, the use of smit and lug marks, and the age-old practice of hefting sheep to the land.

Special Seminar: “The Positive Benefits of Hefting in Challenging Times”

Join a panel of expert speakers for a thought-provoking seminar on the continuing role of hefted flocks in upland sustainability and sheep farming resilience. This session will explore how hefting supports:

  • Smarter, low-input flock management
  • Long-term sustainability of common grazings
  • Stronger links between livestock, land, and nature
